the pin project

Paris, Bangkok, Bali, Singapore, Budapest, Coventry, London, Amsterdam, Berlin, Cairo, Istanbul, Dubai, Zurich, Rome, Milan, Sharm El Sheikh, Stockholm, Moscow, Delft

We promised to get the list bigger and put as many pins as we can in the world map, to visit as many places as possible, to live the adventure of wandering with our own means in unknown places, to get rid of the useless stuff and meaningless possessions, to make it now that we are young and finally to escape from the daily routine and start surviving with the basics.
In fact, the primary purpose of taking such a decision is to have new experiences by crossing cities and countries without knowing when it will end, meeting new people and living with them and -most important- see another side of life.

It is true also that the prevailing atmosphere played its role and helped us a lot. It's very romantic to say that you want to travel all around the world but it is harder to quit everything and go. Without having any intention to be consumed in the Greek social, economic and political situation, rather the jungle is what we leave behind than where we go.

Regarding the preparation costs and the funding of the trip itself, we would like to make it clear that we do not have any machine that generates money or are wealthy heirs. We both used to work for five years in the Greek private sector. We are far away from the Greek lifestyle that lives in Greek clubs, beach bars, luxurious restaurants and cafes. Being campers for ages, we are used to spend the same amount of money that a four member family needs for a 3-day stay in a Greek island. Following a very strict saving program, selling our city cars and getting some unexpected bonuses, we have gathered a significant amount of money that allowed us to buy a second-hand 4x4 vehicle, all necessary equipment for such a trip and a reasonable amount of money to meet everyday needs (at least for the first section of the trip in Africa).

At the end, we would like to emphasize on the inspiration we got from the stories of three people who escaped from the daily routine and travelled around the world. Dimitris Parousis (journalist from Thessaloniki who combines journalism and backpacking in Latin America the last 7 years) adventures filled us with confidence, energy and optimism that nothing is impossible as long as you believe on it. Finally, Akis Temperidis and Voula Netou completed an amazing -from all aspects- roadtrip for more than 3 years and we aspire to walk in their footprints.

You may find more information & details about the preparation, the vehicles and the route under each section.

"You can't connect the dots looking forward you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something: your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart, even when it leads you off the well worn path."
